Purpose of Travel Fund

The Travel Fund exists to:

  • Reduce financial barriers to participation

  • Increase access for individuals from underrepresented or under-resourced communities

  • Enhance geographic diversity and rural participation

  • Strengthen equity, inclusion, and sector-wide learning


Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible, applicants must:

  1. Be a registered participant of the conference

  2. Reside 50 kms outside the host city (Regina, Saskatchewan)

  3. Be affiliated with a nonprofit organization, community group, or be a volunteer

  4. Agree to attend the conference

  5. Submit the application by the stated deadline


Priority Criteria

If demand exceeds available funds, priority may be given to:

  • Individuals from rural or remote communities

  • First-time conference attendees

  • Small nonprofit organizations with limited/no professional development budget

  • Equity-deserving groups

    • Equity-deserving groups may include, but are not limited to:

      ·       Indigenous Peoples (First Nations, Métis, and Inuit)

      ·       Racialized communities

      ·       Black communities

      ·       Newcomers and immigrants

      ·       Persons with disabilities

      ·       2SLGBTQIA+ individuals

      ·       Individuals from low-income backgrounds

      ·       People living in rural or remote communities

      ·       Women and gender-diverse individuals in underrepresented sectors

  • Please note that meeting the eligibility criteria does not guarantee funding, as awards are subject to available funds.


Successful applicants will receive a flat-rate travel bursary of $250.

This bursary is intended to help offset travel-related costs associated with attending the conference. The amount is fixed and will be awarded equally to all approved recipients, regardless of actual expenses incurred.

The bursary may be used at the recipient’s discretion to support travel, accommodation, or related costs.

No detailed expense reporting is required.

Allowable Expenses


Applicants must submit the following by email to reimaginingnonprofits@uregina.ca :

  1. Basic contact information (name, email, phone number, address)

  2. Organizational affiliation

  3. Role in the organization (i.e. staff, volunteer, board member)

  4. A short statement of interest in attending (150-300 words.

The application timeline is as follows:

  • Application Opens: March 6, 2026

  • Application deadline required by: April 3, 2026, by 11:59 PM

Timeline


Review Process

Applications will be reviewed by the conference planning committee.

Review criteria include:

  • Geographic and sector diversity

  • Priority for small & rural nonprofit organizations

  • Equity deserving groups


Funds will be paid in advance of the conference to support access.

  • Participants will be paid the travel funds as an honorarium

  • This requires the completion of an online honorarium form, and funds will be deposited by EFT.

If a recipient is unable to attend the conference due to unforeseen circumstances, they must notify the organizers as soon as possible. In most cases, the travel bursary will need to be returned so that the funds may be redistributed.
